(KNX) — Cyber security experts predict a huge spike in suspicious activity, targeting Amazon shoppers.
Amazon Prime shopping days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Chief Information Security Officer for Check Point Software, Pete Nicoletti, says they like to call it Amazon CRIME day, because of all the email phishing attempts by cyber criminals. "Your unsuspecting person receives an email, 'hey I just bought something from Amazon and they're telling me it's going to be delayed or they need additional money', so there's a sense of urgency, and they're exploiting your relationship with Amazon.
He points out, online criminal organizations are getting more sophisticated. Both the phishing emails he's seen, and the fraudulent websites they're linked to, can be difficult to distinguish from legitimate commerce sites. "When you look at that 'Amazon' page, it sure looks good. It's got all the logos, it's got a little bit of the navigation. And what it's going to say is, I want your credential. Log in, give me your Amazon password." Nicoletti says the cyber criminals aren't necessarily trying to get into your Amazon account. They're banking on the fact that a lot of people re-use passwords, and so they're searching for you across other businesses and financial institutions.
Nicoletti advises you to treat any email that appears to come from Amazon like a notification, but DON'T click on any links. Instead go directly to the Amazon site from your browser. Plus he asks consumers to report anything suspicious to Amazon, which can ask for fake sites to be taken down by domain registrars.
