(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A mother from Chicago wants to help other parents who are looking for clean place to change their baby's diaper when they’re away from home.
Addie Gundry is the founder and CEO of Pluie, a self-sanitizing table for changing your baby.
Gundry said the inspiration for the product struck in 2018 at a restaurant. She said her then 9-month-old son had a “blowout,” so to speak, and the changing table she used in the ladies’ room was suspect.
“They’re uncomfortable, they’re inconvenient. My purse was on the ground,” Gundry tells the Noon Business Hour. “The number one thing I just kept thinking was, ‘Gosh, this just feels dirty.’”
From the tense experience came the idea of designing a changing station that would be more ergonomic — and clean. She spent the next 18 months working on the concept, which incorporates UV-C light.
The first Pluie — referring to the French word for “rain — was installed at a non-profit that serves newborns on the Northwest Side. The product is now in 20 states.
“We’re trying take every restroom by storm,” Gundry said. “There are over 4 million public restrooms in the United States alone. It’s really amazing when you think of the opportunity.”
