There are certain codes to gym etiquette that all people should adhere to.  We’re almost two months into our New Year’s Resolutions, so this is good advice for anyone who made it their goal to get in shape in 2024.

One of the biggest rules is to always make sure a fellow gym-goer is done with a machine before you attempt to use it, but on the flip side make sure not to hog any machine for too long.

We’re not sure what the exact circumstances led to this situation in Austin, but two men at an LA Fitness apparently were having a dispute over a leg press machine.

John Makinson, 69, did not appreciate a fellow gym-goer inquiring about the leg press machine he was using, which led to an argument between the two men in the locker room.

Makinson grew heated, started yelling, and proceeded to stab the other man in the buttocks with a knife. The victim told police that Makinson started chasing him throughout the gym while holding a 4-6 inch knife in the air during his pursuit.

According to KVUE, other gym-goers circled around the victim to protect him which prompted Makinson to start yelling. “Who else wants some?!”

Police apprehended Makinson behind the gym, where he allegedly told them he “just got out of prison for this.”  Records show Makinson was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for another stabbing in Austin in 2011, before being paroled in 2021.

Makinson now faces another charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he required 500 milliliters of blood immediately.  He suffered a stab wound about 3 to 4 inches deep that required four staples to close.
