STOCKTON, Calif. (KNX) – The man arrested in the stabbing death of a Stagg High School student was arraigned on murder charges Wednesday, the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office said.
52-year-old Anthony Gray faces multiple charges, including murder and a special circumstance of torture. Gray didn’t enter a plea deal and the judge denied bail, according to KCRA.

On Monday, Stockton officers responded to Stagg High School just after 11 a.m. following reports of a student stabbed on campus. Alicia Reynaga, the 15-year-old student who was stabbed, died at the hospital.
A Stockton Unified District officer arrested Gray after the stabbing, according to police.
The school district claimed that prior to the teen’s stabbing, Gray drove onto the parking lot on the south side of the campus and grabbed Reynaga and another student, the Stockton Record reported.
“As a mother, this seemingly random act of violence is devastating,” said District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar. “We must protect our children as they are our future. We must call upon our legislators to implement laws that increase penalties for crimes committed on school campuses.”
During a presser, D.A. Salazar said that Gray had prior convictions that stemmed back to 1989, including charges of vandalism, possession of a firearm, and purchasing narcotics. None of the charges were in San Joaquin County. Salazar also said Gray did two prison sentences and had been released in 2012.
Gray will appear in court again next month.
