President Joe Biden will be making multiple appearances throughout California on Monday. In his first appearance in the state since taking office, Biden will be assessing wildfire damage in Northern California and campaigning against the state's gubernatorial recall election with Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Biden will first make a stop in Sacramento to look at the wildfire damage and visit the National Interagency Fire Center, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Following his visit to Sacramento, Biden will travel to Long Beach to join Newsom for a campaign event just one day before the gubernatorial recall election, City News Service reported.
Larry Elder, who is leading in the polls among Republican challengers to Newsom, said he did not think a visit from Biden would do much for Newsom's campaign.
"If Gavin Newsom thinks that flying in Joe Biden and Kamala Harris -- not exactly the most admired government officials at the present time -- will make him look better, that's all you need to know about how oblivious and detached Newsom is from a large majority of Californians," according to the news service.
Biden's trip comes days after Vice President Kamala Harris' appearance in the Bay Area.
Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, however, welcomed the visit from Biden, tweeting, "Looking forward to welcoming President @JoeBiden and Governor @GavinNewsom to Long Beach on Monday".
