STOCKTON, Calif. (KCBS RADIO) – As a possible serial killer has taken the lives of five people in Stockton recently, investigators are looking to the midwest for a possible connection.

There might be a possible connection between the person responsible to a pair of 2018 murders in Chicago.

When Stockton Police released surveillance video of a person of interest earlier this month, investigators keyed in on a specific trait.

"This person is a person of interest," said Stockton Police Chief Stanley McFadden. "Again, we have no evidence that connects this person as committing any of these crimes but is a person we are interested in talking to."

This person has an unusual gait – walking with an upright slow saunter and a slight limp.

This detail led investigators to Chicago and to someone known as the "duck walk killer," a man with a similar build walking with the same measured upright limp with his hands in his pockets.

He is suspected of two 2018 murders before disappearing.

"Over and over and over we heard 'Pay attention to the gait, the gait, the walk,'" said CBS Chicago Investigative reporter Brad Edwards.

Police say Stockton's serial killer has taken the lives of five people in the city, one more in Oakland and injured another.

In a statement to KCBS Radio, Stockton police confirmed they've reached out to the Chicago Police Department and law enforcement agencies across the country, but at this time don't have anything linking the two investigations.
