SAN FRANCISCO (KNX) – A toilet resembling a tiny house fell onto the lower deck of the Bay Bridge Wednesday afternoon, forcing crews to temporarily close the left lane until they could remove the structure.

Around 1 p.m., drivers were held up by the colorful structure painted to resemble San Francisco's famous Painted Ladies — the Victorian and Edwardian houses repainted in the 1960s with three or more colors.
Crews shut down traffic on the bridge until they could clear the tiny toilet, which happened just before 3 p.m.
“Fortunately, however, Caltrans already had a lane closed on the bridge and the trailer could be moved there, out of an open traffic lane,” Rachel Gordon, a spokesperson for the public works department, said.
The toilet is part of San Francisco Public Works' Pit Stop public toilet program. It fell onto the bridge while commuting to its new home at a storage site on Treasure Island, the San Francisco Gate reported.
"You never know what the day is going to bring," Gordon told KCBS Radio. "I didn't wake up thinking that the Pit Stop Painted Lady was going to stop on the Bay Bridge. It did."
Gordon ensured no one had been using the lavatory when the incident occurred, and no one was hurt.
The public toilet program in San Francisco provides a safe, clean place to use the restroom, dispose of needles, and collect dog waste bags, the department said.
Residual traffic backups continued for several hours afterwards.
Twitter users – as is the norm – had a lot of fun with the photo:
@jensen_rader: "I don’t remember this scene from Up."
@rchen: "Innovations in Bay Area housing, story at 7."
@RangerGlen: "Show me a more Bay Area story, I dare you."
@KrisAnkarlo: "The Zillow listing on this is a cool $1.7 million. Great views, easy access to freeways…but, small yard and a bit noisy."
