UKIAH, Cali. (KNX) – A jury found a Northern California man not guilty of drunk driving after the defense team argued his actions were an act of self-defense as he tried to escape two angry women.

Thomas Houston, 60, of Ukiah, was charged with a DUI in August after having a blood alcohol over .08, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Court documents obtained by the Daily Mail revealed Houston’s wife had caught him and his neighbor sleeping together. When both women became enraged, Houston drove off and pulled over where he fell asleep.

When approached by California Highway Patrol, Houston told officers he was trying to avoid his wife, KTVU reported.

Houston was arrested after it was revealed his blood alcohol was at .11.

The defense in the case argued that Houston “acted in an emergency to prevent a significant bodily harm or evil to himself or someone else” and that his driving “did not create a greater danger than the one avoided,” the Mendocino County District Attorney said.

The trial, which lasted four days, ended on Feb. 3.
