Three newborn infants were evacuated from the Hurricane Laura disaster zone in Lake Charles to LCMC Children’s Hospital in New Orleans where they are now in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Nurse Nancy Amato described a harrowing journey from New Orleans into the hurricane zone of destruction:
After bundling up the three babies, including transporting one in an isolette because they needed oxygen, the three left Lake Charles for New Orleans.
Amato says the trip brought back memories of Hurricane Katrina, fifteen years earlier: “It’s been an eventful trip. Kind of surreal since we both were in New Orleans for Katrina, It was awesome. I’m not going to lie. I felt very rewarded that I was able to pay it back. Because they helped us, and we were happy to help them. And I felt so good about it,”
