ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - An Arlington motorcycle officer is recovering after being hit on I-30 this morning by a suspected drunk driver.

"The officer was conducting speed enforcement and was standing to the right side of his motorcycle on the shoulder finishing the paperwork," says Sgt. Karen Standback, "when an SUV traveling westbound veered into the shoulder striking the motorcycle, which pushed the motorcycle into the officer and caused additional impact to the citizen's vehicle that was stopped for speeding."

The incident happened near the Fielder St. exit at around 9:30 this morning.

The officer and both drivers were taken to hospitals.

"Right now it's minor injuries, but we don't know the scope of exactly all his injuries right now," says Sgt. Standback. "We're very lucky that our officer was not seriously injured or killed due to the impact of the crash."

Police Chief Will Johnson tweeted late this morning that the SUV driver was arrested for DWI.
