ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - After months of debate, Arlington officials have finally passed an ordinance restricting short-term rentals.
Starting August 1, you'll need a permit to use your home as a short term rental, but not everyone can get a permit.
Short term rentals, like Airbnb or VRBO, will only be allowed in residential areas near the city's entertainment district. They will also be allowed in any non-residential or mixed-use zone citywide.
Mayor Jeff Wiliams says this has been a tough issue to work out.
"We had to put neighborhoods first, over businesses " and he adds "this proposal is a compromise" said Wiliams.
The Arlington City Council passed the new ordinance on a 6 to 3 vote.
