DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Arlington police say they continue to fight against the problem of fake guns in their city. Police say a 15-year old brought a fake gun to Lamar High School Monday and bragged about it to a fellow student. But after the student was located and the gun confiscated, Lt. Christopher Cook says there was little else they could do. "We can't make an arrest, because it's not a violation of criminal law, as the statutes are presently written, to have a fake gun on a school campus. The only thing that can happen to the 15-year-old is if the school does some administrative sanction," Cook says. Cook says the guns are realistic they often are used in hold-ups and robberies. "We are solving aggravated robberies after finding fake BB guns being used in these offenses." Cook wants lawmakers in Austin to make it illegal to bring a BB, CO2, Pellet or fake gun to any school in the state.
