ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - Some encouraging news about the newborn baby found abandoned inside a dumpster over the weekend.
"We're told that the child's health is progressing well," says Arlington Police Ofc. Jesse Minton.
The newborn baby was found in some sort of container inside a dumpster at the Monterra Pointe Apartments on Tan Oak Ln. at around 8:15 Saturday morning.
A woman was taking the trash out when she heard the baby crying, and she called 911.
"At this time, we really don't know what would have happened if (the baby) hadn't been found right then," says Ofc. Minton.
At this time, police are still working to find the baby's parents.
"We have not identified the mother or the father at this point," says Minton, "but we're still definitely looking for leads."
Under the state's Baby Moses law, parents can leave their unwanted babies, 60 days old or less, at a hospital, police station or fire station, no questions asked.
"We'd certainly be interested to get information," Minton says; "but if they do not want to give us information, that's okay."
It's unknown where the baby will go from here.
"We have received requests from people who have contacted us that said they would adopt that baby in a heartbeat," says Minton, "but that's well out of our jurisdiction or hands to decide where the baby goes."
