DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A state representative from North Texas is again trying to do something to protect homeowners from roofing scams.
Texas State Rep. Giovanni Capriglione from Keller has introduced a bill that calls for roofers to be registered in order to do business in Texas.
"I've tried licensing, and the reality is that's tough to be able to get done. There's a lot of folks in the legislature who don't think you should have to have a license to put a roof on" said Rep. Capriglione.
Under his latest proposal, roofers would have to provide their business name, physical address and contact information. The registry would allow customers to contact roofers they want to hire.
The Keller Republican says scam roofers don't just cost Texans money, he says they're a safety problem as well.
