DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A popular tree giveaway program is coming back to Dallas.

Branch Out Dallas is slated for November 2.

Any Dallas homeowner can claim a free 5-gallon hardwood tree to plant in their yard.

The program gave away more than 2,600 trees last year.

"Everybody was excited," says Sarah Standifer, the Assistant Director of Dallas Water Utilities.  "They turned it into a family event.  You can watch something grow over time and talk about what a tree does for the environment."

Residents can choose from Pecan, Chinkapin Oak, Shumard Oak, Mexican White Oak, or Lacebark Elm.  Registration for the program is open from September 1 - September 3.
