Dak Prescott Isn't Getting His Dog Back Yet

FRISCO (KRLD) - Today was supposed to be the day Dak Prescott got back his American Staffordshire Terrier after it injured a woman nearly two weeks ago. However, the dog will now be held in quarantine longer to determine whether it should be classified as "dangerous".

Frisco police say Prescott's dog bit the woman after she tried to intervene in a fight between it and another dog. Her injuries were not life-threatening, but the dog was quarantined at the Collin County Animal Shelter. It will now stay there until a judge can determine whether to classify it as dangerous.

The Texas Health and Safety Code says a dog is deemed dangerous if it: makes an unprovoked attack on a person that causes bodily injury and occurs somewhere other than the enclosure where it was kept, or it commits unprovoked acts in a place other than its enclosure and those acts cause a person to reasonably believe that the dog will attack and harm a person.

What happens to Prescott's dog next is still up to a judge.

"If the dog is declared dangerous, they have the option of declaring that the dog be removed from the city limits," says Frisco officer Grant Cottingham. "It's also possible they could determine that the dog should be euthanized."

Cottingham says the judge wants to work with Prescott and everyone involved to try and resolve the incident. A day or time for the hearing about the dog has not been chosen yet.
