DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A majority of Dallas City Council members said they want a Confederate monument at Pioneer Cemetery removed.

Some residents believe monuments should stay or have that extra context added, but some faith leaders in Dallas are pushing for their removal. They say monuments should reflect a city’s values, and that Confederate monuments are examples of racism and white supremacy.

Removing the monument from Pioneer Park could cost around $500,000.

"And I'm sure that we'll have Civil War part two if we go forward with this," councilman Casey Thomas, who endorsed removal, said.

Removing the Confederate monument was delayed, even after a September 2017 city council vote that said Confederate monuments are against Dallas policy, according to NBC 5.
