DALLAS (KRLD) - Members of the Dallas Police Department gathered at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center today to honor officers who have died in the line of duty. Two officers were killed on the job last year, bringing the total number of officers who have died in the line of duty in the history of DPD to 86.

"Today, we gather to remember those who laid down their lives for the community they swore to protect and serve," said Police Chief Renee Hall. "Today, we celebrate their lives and honor their legacy. We are here to remember 86 men and women of the Dallas Police Department who are forever bound together by an unbreakable bond of valor."
Officer Rogelio Santander was shot and killed while trying to arrest a shoplifting suspect at a Home Depot in April of 2018. Senior Corporal Jamie Givens was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver while on traffic duty for a funeral procession in July of 2018.

"They do it to protect us. They do it to honor their brothers and sisters in blue. they do it because they are men and women with servant hearts. Without them, we would not have this beautiful city."
