DENTON (KRLD) - The Denton County Transportation Authority is changing fares as part of an effort to match other agencies more closely and streamline its structure. DCTA is removing some fares and changing or adding others.

DCTA has added a local AM/PM pass and removed the 2-Hour and Mid-Day Pass. DCTA has also removed the Regional 7-Day Pass, Local Summer Youth Pass, Connect Fare, Transfer/BuyUps.

"Our new local fare structure allows for a seamless integration within the entire regional fare system by providing fare consistency with DART and Trinity Metro," says DCTA's Adrienne Hamilton.

Hamilton says ridership on the A-Train has dropped. She says DCTA hopes to benefit from Trinity Metro's addition of TEXRail.

"TEXRail is definitely an added benefit for the regional transit system as a whole, as another way for riders to get around," Hamilton says. "We have to start changing the way we do business. At DCTA, we've already taken a lot of measures to have a positive impact on our ridership. We've teamed up with rideshare services to help get customers from our buses and A-Train."

DCTA has also been running a promotion that cuts local day passes from $6 to $3. Hamilton says DCTA is making that promotion permanent.
