DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A documentary film being released his weekend is hoping to change the way courts deal with child welfare and drug court cases.
Former journalist Olive Talley had been doing work with TCU's Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development when they asked her to do a short video on the partnership between their program and a family court in Tyler, Texas run by Judge Carole Clark.
The court had implemented a method created by the Purvis Institute that addressed childhood trauma called Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI.)
After sitting in court a few days, Talley was stunned at way the court was run and how instead of trying to rip children and families apart, the method was healing people and bringing families together.
A short video would not suffice, she thought. She asked Purvis Institute if they'd allow her to shoot an hour long documentary. The result was a film called All Rise: For the Good Of the Children which is featured at the USA Film Festival on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 2:30 pm at the Angelika Theater in Dallas.
"Our goal is to provide hope. Our goal is to provide inspiration to help other courts change and adopt this process to help find better outcomes for these troubled and dysfunctional families," Talley said.
The film was shot by Dallas-based Cactex Media over a 4 month period.
Tickets are available at the Angelika Theater Box Office.
