DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - ERCOT, the electric grid for most of Texas, had to issue an emergency alert Tuesday to curb use. Beth Garza, independent market monitor for the ERCOT Market says demand in Texas is rising faster than perhaps any other state.
"One of the ways you encourage people to actions in markets like that is you have prices that are reflective of people's value of electricity that we hope will serve as an incentive for suppliers to come to the state"
She says the reserve power margin in the grid is as low as she's seen in her 30 plus year career. She says they have been adding new generation, mostly wind and solar power...and adds there's a continuing need for new supply.
