DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A rally is being held today in Dallas as part of a national effort to get federal employees back to work.
Those workers haven't been paid since the shutdown started, and now a ripple effect is being felt in other industries across Texas.
For example, the state's alcohol industry could see some fallout, thanks to a part of the Treasury Department that's shut down. That part issues labels for alcohol to be sold across state lines, and also approves permits for new facilities like breweries or wineries. That means some new beers or wines won't be released.
However, it's possible this won't be too damaging. Some places sell their booze only in Texas, and don't go across state lines. In that case, they won't need that federal approval.
If it lasts through the weekend, this government shutdown will become the longest in history.
Today's rally is at the Dallas EPA headquarters on Ross Avenue, starting at 11:30 Thursday morning.
