FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Fort Worth police could be reinstating an officer, more than a year after he was fired for allegedly using excessive force.

A proposed compromise would give Sergeant Kenneth Pierce his job back, and almost a year's worth of back pay. In August 2017, he and another officer responded to a domestic violence call. Dorshay Morris claimed her boyfriend was trying to break her windows and kick her door in. She said she had no problem with stabbing him in self-defense.

At the time, Fort Worth police chief Joel Fitzgerald claimed Pierce used excessive force when dealing with Morris, including telling his fellow officer to use a Taser. She was wrongly arrested, and charges against her were dropped. However, a separate investigation showed Pierce did not violate policy in dealing with Morris.

A recent hearing laid out terms for the compromise. As a condition of his return, Pierce would have to serve around 60 days of suspension. He's already completed that. However, Fort Worth activists are angry, saying the incident was racist and the compromise is unacceptable.
