Star Wars actor Mark Hamill has deleted an AI-generated image that depicted President Donald Trump lying in a grave, following intense backlash including sharp criticism from the White House.
Hamill shared the image Wednesday evening on Bluesky. The AI-created picture showed Trump appearing lifeless in a shallow grave with daisies growing around him. A headstone behind the figure read “Donald J. Trump 1946-2024,” and the words “If Only” were written across the bottom.
In the caption, Hamill expressed a wish that Trump would live long enough to witness a major political defeat in the midterms, be held accountable for alleged corruption, face impeachment and conviction, and ultimately be disgraced in the history books.

The timing of the post came just days after a gunman attempted to breach security at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on April 25. During that incident, shots were fired as President Trump and other officials attended the event in Washington, D.C. The suspect was taken into custody and later charged with attempted assassination.
The White House responded quickly on Thursday. The administration’s Rapid Response 47 account on X called Hamill “one sick individual” and stated that such rhetoric contributes to the environment that has inspired multiple assassination attempts against the president in recent years.
Later Thursday, Hamill deleted the original post. He replaced it with a clarification and partial apology, writing: “Accurate Edit for Clarity: ‘He should live long enough to…be held accountable for his…crimes.’ Actually, I was wishing him the opposite of dead, but apologize if you found the image inappropriate.”
The actor, best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, has been a longtime vocal critic of Trump. The episode has sparked heated debate online about the tone of political speech at a time of heightened security concerns around public figures.
No further statements have been issued by Hamill or the White House as of Friday morning.
