DALLAS (KRLD) - The United State Department of Justice says 33-year-old Tavoris Bottley was working at the Federal Correctional Complex in Beaumont in 2017.
Prosecutors say he punched an inmate in the head three times. Investigators say Bottley submitted an incident report that omitted any mention of these punches and instead accused the inmate of attempting to assault staff.
If convicted, he could face a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison for the civil rights violation, and 20 years in prison for the obstruction offense.
He could also pay a fine of up to $250,000 for each charge.
