FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - City employees will start voting today on changes to their pension plan.

Throughout last month, the Fort Worth human resources office briefed employees of the changes to the pension fund designed to close a $1.6 billion shortfall to prevent it from going broke within the next 30 years.

It involves increases in contributions by both the city and the employees; because of the latter, it is subject to an employee vote.

The biggest sticking point was changes to cost of living adjustments; the plan the city approved late last year protects cost of living adjustments for current retirees.

Voting runs through February 22nd.

Mayor Betsy Price has said many times that if a fix could not be reached at the city level, it would be decided by state lawmakers in Austin, and she said employees would not like the fix that they would come up with.
