GEORGETOWN (1080 KRLD) - A teenager from Garland is dead after the crash on southbound SH 130 in Georgetown, north of Austin.
Four other teens were taken to the hospital.
Police say 18-year-old Jairo Garcia, 17-year-old Andrew Trevino and a 16-year-old in the car were all from Garland. Another 16-year-old girl from Quinlan was also in the car. 17-year-old Dezirae Fregoso from Kaufman was driving the speeding Mazda.
Georgetown police say the car was trying to change lanes in order to pass some slower traffic. But they were going so fast, the Mazda lost control. It went across the grassy median, flipped several times, and landed upside down.
"All three of the males were not wearing their seat belts, and they were ejected form the vehicle", says Georgetown police captain Roland Waits. "The two ladies were wearing theirs, but became trapped and had to be extricated."
Jario Garcia died at the scene. One of the teens also from Garland needed emergency surgery, and the other three teens have non life threatening injuries.
Waits says it's possible the driver may face charges.
