DALLAS (KRLD) - Marian Brown has been sworn in for a full term as Dallas County Sheriff. Brown took over the office last year when Lupe Valdez resigned to run for governor.
Brown was elected in November, winning about 64 percent of the vote over Republican Aaron Meek.
"We're going to engage our community and make the community know that we are here for them," Brown says. "They are a part of us, and we are a part of them."
Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price administered the oath.
"This is a good day for Dallas County," he says. "I take a lot of pride and privilege today."
Brown spent 26 years with Duncanville police before joining Dallas County as a chief deputy. She oversees 2,100 employees and the seventh biggest jail in the United States.
