MESQUITE (KRLD) - The Mesquite school bus driver who was behind the wheel during a fatal crash last year will not face charges.
Mesquite police say they have closed the books in their investigation of 67-year old John Johnson of Garland.
The final missing piece, drug and alcohol testing, came back negative, according to Mesquite Police Lieutenant Steven Biggs.
On October 3, 2018, Johnson was driving down a narrow Mesquite road when he lost control of the bus. The bus flipped on its side, hit a utility pole and caught fire. The accident killed 12-year old Jazmine Alfaro.
Biggs says the case was a tragic accident but does not rise up to a level of a criminal offense.
