POLK COUNTY, Ark. (1080 KRLD) - A Fort Worth hiker lost for nearly a week has been found safely in a remote area of southwest Arkansas.

According to the sheriff of Polk County, Arkansas, Scott Sawyer, 38-year-old Joshua McClatchy was found yesterday.

The sheriff said that McClatchy was dehydrated, but in good spirits. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation. A National Guard helicopter equipped with infrared technology searched the Caney Creek Wilderness area, which is about 105 miles southwest of Little Rock.

The chopper crew spotted McClatchy. It took rescuers on the ground an hour to reach him and several more hours to carry him out.

McClatchy had texted his mother last Saturday to say he was lost and to send help.
