DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A mountain lion sighting in a Central Texas subdivision is rattling some nerves.

An outdoor home security camera shows the mountain lion roaming through the Mason Hills subdivision in Leander.

Leander police posted the picture on their Facebook page. They say, "Although these sightings are rare, we encourage all residents to follow Texas Parks and Wildlife Department guidelines on mountain lion sightings or encounters.

Edna Ellis is the city of Leander Animal Services Supervisor. She says, "We advised residents that the best thing to do is not approach it. It would be best if residents kept their pets indoors at night and from dusk to dawn. This is the time that the mountain lions would be out hunting for food."

She also recommends removing any type of food outside that might attract wildlife. She says, "If you encounter one, stay calm while slowly backing away. Don't turn your back on it." She says these animals are generally just passing through, and sightings of mountain lions have occurred in all 254 Texas counties. Their roaming areas can sometimes reach over 50 miles.

She also says there are no reports of any injuries in this case.
