FORT WORTH (KRLD) - Fort Worth-based American Airlines has reached an agreement in principle with the TWU-IAM Association. The Transport Workers Union and International Association of Machinists represent about 31,000 mechanics and fleet service workers. Contract talks have been on-going for the past four years.
Union leaders issued a statement that "We had a decision to make: get a quick agreement, or get the right agreement for Association members...as you review the complete terms of the contracts, you will see that we chose the correct path." The union describes the total compensation in the proposal as the "richest in the industry."
"Our Maintenance and Related and Fleet Service team members are the very best in the business and work incredibly hard to care for our customers," said American Airlines Chairman and CEO Doug Parker. "They deserve contracts that include meaningful improvements in pay, quality of life and job protections. The tentative agreements deliver on all of these and more."
The agreement involves five contracts with various units with the TWU-IAM Association. The members will still need to vote on those contracts. A statement from the union's leadership says that process could take several weeks.
