A proposed warehouse and office space is one step closer to being approved in Arlington, and people seem to have mixed feelings about it.

The development is called Parc 20, and the plan is to build it on an undeveloped piece of land on S. Collins Street. Aside from using the land and bringing new jobs to the area, Parc 20 would also help reduce flooding.

But not everyone is onboard with the plan, and they let city council members know during yesterday's council meeting.

"As a citizen and a resident of Southeast Arlington, I'm not okay with this," one woman said during the public comment portion of the meeting. "I don't understand why these developers seem to think it's okay to turn southeast Arlington into an industrial zone."

Other people voiced their support of the project.

"As a lifelong resident of Arlington, I'm pleased to recommend your approval of this project," one resident said. "I personally have known the developer, Jackson-Shaw, and their team for many years. I have found that they're excellent at what they do ... they really try to look at the merits for all, not just the developer."

In all, six people voiced their opposition to the project and eight people voiced their support of it.

After hearing from residents, the council approved the proposal 8-1 and Parc 20 is one step closer to being developed.

The council will vote again on whether or not to approve the request on September 8th.

Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams says in the meantime, he's asking residents to keep an "open ear" and listen to what the developer has to say. Williams says people need to remember that the site cannot remain undeveloped forever.
