A Southwest Airlines flight attendant is in federal custody after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents last week, union officials confirm.
The employee, identified by ICE as Lorenzo Thompson, who is from Jamaica, was taken into custody at Nashville International Airport for allegedly overstaying his visa.
The Transport Workers Union of America, which represents Southwest flight attendants, said it was actively working alongside Thompson’s family and legal counsel to navigate the situation.
"We are monitoring the case closely and assisting the family during this difficult time," the union said in a statement.
Thompson's family has launched an online fundraising campaign to help cover his mounting legal expenses as he awaits further immigration proceedings.
Southwest Airlines has not yet commented on the worker's current employment status or the specifics of the detention.
