McKINNEY (1080 KRLD) - Thousands of people came together yesterday evening, gathering on the steps of the Collin County Courthouse in prayer.

"Here we are," said Alicia Johnson, a resident in Allen. "All races of people, all denominations of people, doing the one thing we know will work. And that is pray."

Johnson says attending the community-wide prayer event was a no-brainer for her. The service might have been different, but as pastors took to the podium and pleaded for change, it seemed like people welcomed the unconventional.

“We're fighting for justice and against racism," said One Community Church campus pastor Matt Anderson. "We believe racism is, at its heart, a sin issue."

Anderson joined the other attendees in praying for the community, the country, and to see a change in people's hearts.

About a dozen churches from around Collin County organized the event in just 3 days. It ended with people singing songs of worship as the sun set over the courthouse.
