An appeals court has granted permission to the City of Dallas to remove the Confederate War Memorial in the Pioneer Park Cemetery downtown. The City had attempted to remove the 65-foot-tall monument in 2018, but was blocked when a group filed a lawsuit to preserve the statue.

The City of Dallas filed new paperwork in court this week arguing that protestors could try to remove or topple the statue themselves. An appeals court lifted a temporary injunction which had blocked the city from removing the monument. The city's court filing indicates the city plans to remove the monument in an archival fashion and preserve it.
