DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A Dallas Police Officer who was involved in a serious crash over the weekend has died from his injuries.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office says Officer Joseph George passed away on Christmas Eve.

Police say Officer George was off-duty and racing another vehicle on Mockingbird Lane on December 20th when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. The other driver fled the scene and is still being sought by police. Investigators believe he was driving a white, two-door Suzuki.

"The Dallas Police Department wishes to express its deepest condolences to the family of Officer Joseph Michael George," DPD officials said in in a written statement. "Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

Officer George had been with the Dallas Police Department for four years and was assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division.

"He was a great cop. A lot of the officers spoke highly of him," said Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata. "He had a great personality and was easy to get along with. I know he served the citizens of this city very, very well and he's going to be greatly missed."
