DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Dallas police chief has started a series of meetings with residents and business owners to talk about her plan to reduce crime. Renee Hall says she plans to hold "listening sessions" in each city council district.

Tuesday, she met with business owners along Stemmons Freeway in Northwest Dallas.

"I'm asking you the gap, with all of these things they have in place, what are the things that we're missing?" she asked.

Most business owners at the meeting said they worry more about property crime in that part of the city than violent crime.

"We have tailgates stolen, we have burglaries, and we are just really wanting to ensure our patrons who come back year after year they'll be safe," says Tamara Price, the assistant general manager of Sheraton Suites Market Center.

On Monday, Hall is scheduled to lay out her plan to reduce violent crime by five percent to the Dallas City Council's Public Safety Committee. Mayor Eric Johnson has called the plan a "start," but he says Dallas' goals to reduce crime should be "more ambitious."

Tuesday's meeting was in the district of Councilman Omar Narvaez.

"I think I would agree with the mayor. I want to see an even more active number. I don't know what that number is, but five percent seems not very big," he says.

Thursday evening, Hall plans a public meeting in Narvaez' district at Nash-Davis Recreation Center. She has scheduled additional meetings through February 20th and says she will ultimately hold "listening sessions" in each council district to talk about a five year plan to make changes within the department and reduce crime.
