DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- Dallas salon owner Shelly Luther has been released from Dallas County Jail as of 1:50 PM this afternoon, according to Raul Reyna with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office.
Luther was ordered in jail after she was found in contempt of court. Earlier today Governor Abbott said he wanted Luther out of jail, saying no business owner should be locked up for disobeying his coronavirus order.
Salons and barbershops are permitted to reopen at 25 percent capacity Friday. Shelley Luther reopened Salon a la Mode in North Dallas last week.
Dallas County Judge Eric Moye found her in contempt and ordered her to spend a week in jail.
Later Thursday morning, the Supreme Court of Texas issued an order granting her request for "emergency relief."
Luther's attorney, Warren Norred says it was a nice gesture, but has little to do with the contempt of court.
The contempt case has yet to play out, the Supreme Court did not rule on the merits, only granting recognizance bond until the courts hear the matter.
