DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The City of Dallas has asked the Texas Supreme Court to allow it to immediately begin removal of its Confederate Monument.

City officials say they have learned of a protest that is suppose to happen this Saturday around the monuments in Pioneer Park.

In a letter to the Texas Supreme Court, the city says "the monument's continued presence is a de facto glorification of racism."

They also cite incidents in the last few days where public monuments have been "defaced or toppled in this country and abroad."

They also say they have an expert who is ready to remove the monuments without causing its demolition or destruction.
