DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A federal court is temporarily blocking the city of Dallas' new, mandatory paid sick leave policy.
A judge in Sherman has granted a preliminary injunction to stop enforcement of the law while a lawsuit against the city proceeds.
The judge based his ruling on state law which he says prevents cities from creating their own policy on mandatory sick leave.
The policy was enacted last year when Mike Rawlings was still mayor. He warned that courts had already stopped Austin and San Antonio from enforcing their similar measures.
The Dallas City Council now has to decide whether to appeal the injunction.
