Kraus is a 26-year veteran of the force and most recently served as the police liaison to the city's Race and Culture Task Force.

He'll stay on as interim chief for the next several months while the city searches for a new chief.  Kraus says he hasn't yet decided if he'll apply for the job on a permanent basis.
