The Fort Worth Independent School District has joined others in the area in announcing a choice for families this fall.
Parents will be able to choose from in-person classes or online learning for their kids.
The district has posted a 24 page guide online.
The guide says some teachers will work in schools, others will work remotely and some will use a combination of the two.
"Some support staff may move into classrooms to assist teachers," says Superintendent Kent Scribner. "This will help ensure instruction delivered virtually is of the same high quality as instruction delivered in person."
Fort Worth ISD says teachers were trained this spring and summer for online instruction. Students who choose virtual instruction will be able to receive a Chromebook and wifi hotspot.
"There will be more to come on this including information about training for more robust and comprehensive distance learning," Scribner says. "The uncertainty of the health crisis means decisions are subject to change. Something that won't change is the fact that we're entering a new era of education."
Fort Worth ISD says students will be given information on "appropriate hygiene practices," and parents are encouraged to talk with their kids about COVID-19 symptoms and prevention.
Teachers working in the classroom will be trained on procedures from the Texas Education Agency and CDC.
The district wants parents to make a decision by August 3. Fort Worth ISD says students will be able to change between virtual or in-person learning at the end of each grading period.
