FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A downtown Fort Worth school was evacuated this morning due to a possible gas leak.
A hazmat team was called to the Young Women's Leadership Academy on Jones St.
"There were reports of a strong chemical smell inside that building," says Mike Drivdahl, spokesman for the Fort Worth Fire Dept. "We did evacuate the building and let our squad, which is our hazmat team, go in and take readings on the building. They have found no significant readings of concern."
Several students and staffers were treated.
"We did triage 24 patients," says Drivdahl, "and three patients were transported for further evaluation."
While the investigation into the cause continues, Drivdahl says there is one strong possibility.
"There is a construction crew in the area that is working on a sewer line," Drivdahl says, "and that is a possible cause of why we're out here today."
Students and staffers were let back into the building shortly before noon, and the scene was cleared a short time afterwards.
