DALLAS (KRLD) - The family of the second person killed at West Freeway Church of Christ last Sunday has scheduled his funeral. Tony Wallace worked as a deacon at the church and was killed last weekend as he distributed communion.
Wallace, 64, was a deacon at the church and worked as a registered nurse.
His family says a visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 10 at Greenwood Funeral Home at 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth TX 76107. The funeral will follow at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Altamesa Church of Christ at 4600 Altamesa Boulevard, Fort Worth, TX 76133.
Thursday, the family of the other man killed held his service. Richard White, 67, was married with three children and seven grandchildren. He worked on the church's volunteer security team.
"We're here today to celebrate a remarkable life," Governor Greg Abbott said as he arrived for White's service.
Abbott said the church and City of White Settlement may need years to fully recover.
"Texas is standing strong with this community. We will continue to work with this community as they progress through the healing process," he said. "Texas, as a state, will be working with this entire congregation and this community every step of the way to put them back on a pathway toward healing, hope and advancement in their lives."
This year, the legislature passed a law that allows gun owners with a concealed carry license bring weapons into churches unless the church posts a sign prohibiting them or announces they are not allowed. In 2017, lawmakers passed a law that lets churches train their own security instead of hiring off duty police or private security. Abbott said he will work with the legislature to "continue looking into laws like that."
"We will be always considering laws that will allow people to defend themselves and to defend others," he said.
