The Texas Rangers open their delayed and shortened season Friday at heir new home, Globe Life Field. And like everything else these days, the traditional first-pitch will not be so traditional after all.

The Rangers have asked Governor Abbott to do the honors virtually.

The Governor's office confirms their plan to videotape the pitch outside at at the state capitol. Then, the video will be shown Friday night when the Rangers entertain the Rockies in the first game of a weekend series.

Of course, only the players and coaching staffs, along with a few other staffers from both teams, will see it in person because no fans will be allowed for at least the first part of the 60-game season.

Naturally, the game will be televised.

Abbott threw out the first pitch at last year's home opener for the final season at Globe Life Park. But he was there in person.
