DENTON (1080 KRLD) - The Texas Historical Commission (THC) has unanimously approved the removal of the Confederate Soldier Memorial from the downtown Denton square, with added provisions.

The Commissioners Court submitted an application for approval last week, but the THC requested a few changes.

The approved provisions are as follows:
  • Denton will maintain ownership and custody of the memorial, and it will be relocated on county property within one year of removal.
  • The THC will protect the memorial at its new location.
  • Denton County will consult the THC about the new presentation and interpretation of the memorial.

When asked when the memorial will be removed from the square, Denton County Judge Andy Eads said: "Soon."
