DALLAS (KRLD) - Dallas police say a man was drunk when he crashed into the front of an apartment building near downtown Dallas.

Police say he was speeding down Ross Avenue at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday. He was headed west on Ross and never turned when the street dead-ends into Houston Street.

Dallas police say the driver hit a pillar then crashed into the front of the apartment building on the other side of the street. Two bicycle officers and a security guard working at the Dallas Holocaust Museum a block away heard the crash.

They went to help and saw the car had caught fire. They helped the driver out of the car, and the driver was taken to the hospital. No one else was hurt.

Police say the driver has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated and will be booked into jail when he is released from the hospital.
