DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - With the coronavirus grinding life to a screeching halt, one meal prep company is working to ensure that kids are properly fed while they're out of school.
With schools being ordered to remain closed for at least the next two weeks, Kyle Clark took it as a call to action.
"They really rely on their food from school," says Clark, who owns Dallas Prep Kitchen. "And so without school, the food that they'll be eating is more like snacks and things like that, and they're not getting their nourishment."
So starting Wednesday, Dallas Prep Kitchen will be handing out meal kits for kids -- for free.
The meals that the company will hand out will be different than what's normally offered on the website.
"They're gonna be kid friendly, but we're doing this for nutritional value," Clark tells KRLD. "We think that kids are going to be just incredibly happy and fulfilled by the food that we'll be able to prepare."
Clark says this is being made possible thanks to donations.
"Anyone can donate on our website," says Clark. "And also, proceeds of our sales over the next couple weeks will be used to make healthy meals that we'll distribute to the students."
At this time, the company does not need additional manpower or product - it simply needs cash.
There are no income requirements - the meals are doled out on a first-come, first-serve basis.
"We're just going to set up a tent at each one of these locations for a few hours," says Clark. "People can come (and) grab a week's worth of meals."
