
The state quarterfinals. Since I started following Texas High School Football in the 1970s, I've always been enamored with the term. It's one that rings with accomplishment. Make it to the quarterfinals, and you've done something. In today's game, it means you are halfway to the ultimate goal - the state championship. After three rounds of elimination, only 80 teams statewide (including 21 remaining unbeatens) are still playing 11-man football this week. That's 40 games with huge implications. Call them the quarterfinals or the regional finals. Either way, we should be in for another outstanding weekend. Here are the fourth-round matchups:
